Well, I can safely say that this year has kicked off better than last year. Throughout February and into March, there has been a nice run of spring codling appearing up to the 5.5lbs mark. Skate seem to be down in numbers compared to last year whereas the number of cod is definitely up and have appeared much earlier than last year.
Although days appeared to be a bit "hit and miss" throughout February, March seems to be a bit more consistent. The biggest problem at the moment is of course the weather! This has been the case for who knows how long now?!
Last week gave us a glimpse of hope for nice weather which unfortunately appears to be have been short lived. Having managed to stray offshore in search of some pollack on the wrecks last Friday resulting in some nice fish we then found that the bad weather (mainly strong winds) arrived back in time for the weekend on Saturday and Sunday meaning that the offshore marks are once again inaccessible.
I'm sure that this is only a glitch in the weather as summer is just around the corner and the prospects of some more good fishing are high if the early part of March is anything to go by.
